Exciting Week for iPad 1:1

I'd like to thank our students, parents and teachers for a great start to the second year of our 1:1 iPad Initiative!  On Wednesday, the 8th grade assembled in the auditorium for an overview of our iPad program.  We discussed our program goals, expectations and excitement for the upcoming year.  One of our goals this year is to share more student work with the community.  Another goal is to have more student ownership of the program by having students on our 1:1 Advisory Board, student posts on our 1:1 blog and student iPad tutoring for students and adults.

On Thursday morning, we distributed over 150 iPads during homeroom.  Special thanks to RMS Technology Specialist Andrea Granger for her work organizing and setting this all up.   Students have begun enrolling in courses via iTunes U and familiarizing themselves with the iPads and teachers are already introducing some apps in classes.

Finally, thanks to the forty or so parents who joined us for an overview of the 1:1 program last night.  Several eight grade teachers shared examples and stories of how they use iPad apps in their teaching and how it helps in the learning process. We're looking forward to a great year and sharing many project examples with you as the year unfolds!

Tarrant Institute for Innovative Education - Road Trip

A couple weeks ago on August 7th, RMS Associate Principal Amanda Yates and RMS Technology Coordinator Martin Warren traveled to Burlington, Vermont and met with representatives of the Tarrant Institute for Innovative Education.  The Tarrant Institute provides guidance and support to schools in Vermont with their 1:1 programs.

We spent two hours discussing our program with Associate Directors Penny Bishop and John Downs.  Topics ranged from efficiently deploying apps, how to measure program effectiveness, student and community support and involvement, teacher training and support and digital citizenship.  We learned a lot from our visit and have several ideas we will be trying out this year.

Ms. Yates also posted her thoughts on the day on her blog at
